A CV carburetor (Constant Velocity) incorporates a vacuum operated slide that varies the venturi size within the carburetor, thus maintaining a constant velocity. The slide also holds a needle that when lifted by the opening slide varies the amount of atomized fuel delivered.

Below the choke is the business end of the carburetor. This is the throat, or barrel, which necks down in the middle to take advantage of Bernoulli’s principle: The faster air moves, the lower its pressure, and therefore the easier it is to mix with fuel.
Can a carburetor be fixed?
Even if the choke is defective, a choke repair kit or a new bimetal spring should be all that’s necessary to eliminate the starting problem. Replacing the entire carburetor is unnecessary and is the same as replacing the engine because the water pump is bad.
What goes on top of a carburetor?
At the top, there’s a valve called the choke that regulates how much air can flow in. Beneath the venturi, there’s a second valve called the throttle. The more the throttle is open, the more air flows through the carburetor and the more fuel it drags in from the pipe to the side.
