Where does the Thames Path start and finish?

The walk starts at the source in Kemble and ends at the Thames Barrier just after Greenwich. We have divided the route into four sections so you can complete the route over a few holidays if you don’t have the time to walk it in one go. The Thames starts as a small trickle just outside Kemble.

How many days does it take to walk the Thames Path?

The Trail is 184 miles (294 Km) long. As a guide, using roughly 15 miles/24 Km a day as an average daily walking distance, the Trail can be completed in 14 days allowing for a couple of days’ rest.

The interesting town of Richmond is the start point for this walk, where the Thames takes on a m ore rural feel. From Richmond you pass through Petersham Meadow, past Marble Hill House and Ham House, through quite rural settings to Teddington Lock, which is the point at which the Thames is no longer tidal.

A sometimes muddy walk to the source of the Thames. Although flat and navigationally generally undemanding this walk does have its challenges. There are however some parts of the walk, particularly between Reading and Oxford which are pretty featureless and can be dull.

Easy to reach by public transport, the Thames Path is a gentle Trail, able to be walked by people of all ages and abilities.

Where does the Thames Path End at Northmoor?

Beyond the caravan site, the Thames path now continues next to the river all the way to Northmoor Lock, a pleasant walk through the edge of fields with both banks of the river remaining undeveloped. The path can get quite overgrown along this stretch though. Soon you see Northmoor Lock approaching, marking the end of this walk.
