What does RHH or RHW mean?

What does RHH or RHW mean?

RHH/RHW-2/USE-2, sometimes called XLP-USE, is a building wire made of a single insulated copper conductor with insulation of thermoset material composed of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

What Rhw 2?

RHW-2, USE-2, and RHH cables are bare copper with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. RHW wires are an underground service entrance cable for direct burial in which the conductor temperature will not exceed 90 degrees Celsius wet or dry.

Is use-2 wire direct burial?

USE-2/RHH/RHW-2 aluminum building wire is rated for direct burial and intended for general purpose applications utilized in conduit, underground in conduit, or other recognized raceways for services, feeders, and branch-circuit wiring.

Can use-2 be used indoors?

USE-2 cable that is made from XLP insulation is usually allowed indoors. The difference is that XLP is flame-retardant. SE/SER: indoor use or above-ground outdoor use is acceptable. USE-2 cable that is made from XLP insulation is usually allowed indoors.

Is Thhn the same as THWN?

THHN stands for Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated. THWN wire is the same, but the “W” stands for water-resistant. THWN has a maximum temperature of 90°C in dry and wet locations, whereas THHN wire can only be used in temperatures as high as 75°C in wet locations.

Can Rhw 2 be used indoors?

USE-2/RHH-2/RHW-2 can be direct buried, but otherwise requires a raceway. This, practically, limits single-rated USE-2 wires and cables to direct burial applications, or use as a multiplex cable-in-conduit outdoors. (You can’t use it indoors or for general aboveground work, even when in a raceway!)

Can use cable be used indoors?

Can use-2 wire be in conduit?

Southwire® Type RHH or RHW-2 or USE-2 conductors are used with conduit as specified in the 2011 National Electrical Code. When used as Type USE-2, conductor is suitable for use as underground service entrance cable for direct burial at conductor temperatures not to exceed 90° C.

Can Thhn be used for service entrance?

Service Entrance Cable, Type SER, is normally used in multi-family residential housing to take power from meter base to panel box in an individual apartment. Each phase conductor is type THHN or THWN-2, and is suitable for use where the overall cable does not exceed 75°C.

What does SJ cord stand for?

Hard Service
SJ – Hard Service. Also called a “Junior Jacket,” this cable is rated for 300V service. Just like it sounds, the outer jacket of the cable is oil resistant. OO – The addition of the extra “O” means that the outer jacket and the insulation are both oil resistant. W – Weather and Water Resistant.
