What weight shock oil should I use?

What weight shock oil should I use?

35 is considered a good general starting place. I run on a very packed track and I run 40wt in the front and 50wt in the back and it is VERY stiff. I suggest starting with 35wt and go from there. I would use 60-80wt for on-road.

What oil do you use for shock absorbers?

You CAN use 20 or 30W motor oil. It is COMPLETELY compatible with all of the seals. A much better choice is hydraulic fork oil or hydraulic pump oils, as you’d use in hydrostatic transmissions or hydrailc rams on heavy equipment. These have the necessary anti-foaming agents and are suited for the use.

Can you use baby oil in RC shocks?

baby oil, mineral oil, cooking oils, suntan oils….. all should be OK in RC shocks and shouldn’t hurt rubber o-rings and such. Just may be a pain to clean out when you do get shock oil.

How much oil do you put in RC shocks?

Put the oil in with the shaft extended all the way out, pour the oil to about a 1/8″ – 1/4″ from the top is good.

Is RC diff oil the same as shock oil?

There is no difference between diff and shock oil other than viscosity. Certain companies use certain ratings for both shock and diff oil. US-based companies like AE and Losi, rate their oils in weights. Many overseas companies like Mugen and Xray rate their oils in cst.

How much oil does a shock absorber take?

Re: shock absorber oil type and how much In short, it seems that the original oil in the dampers is equivalent to monograde 20 engine oil. If you want to improve (increase) the damping, you can try monograde 30 or even monograde 40.

Do shock absorbers leak oil?

What Causes Leakage in Shock Absorbers? Shock absorbers are small oil pumps with a piston inside. They’re filled with oil and usually have a rod that goes through the top of the shock. The top of the shock has a seal that stops any leakage, but this can get damaged, and the oil leaks out over time.

Can you use car oil for RC shocks?

Motor oil can be used as shock oil, but it’s much worse for the environment than its silicone-based counterpart. Motor oil has solvents in it that are known to break down tars and waxes, so if your RC car has any of those inside, it could do a good bit of harm to the car.

What can you use in RC shocks?

You should use 30-40wt. shock oil in your shocks but depending on how stiff you want your shocks to be you can use different weights. The higher the viscosity (weight) of your shock oil the stiffer your RC’s springs will be so if you start with 35wt. and it is too stiff then you might want to go down to 25wt.

How do you fill RC piggyback shocks with oil?

Fill main shock body with shock oil to the top edge. SLOWLY cycle the shock a few times (compress then extend the shock shafts) to bleed air out from below the shock pistons. Once all the air is out, top off the oil to the top edge of the shock body, then re-install shock cap.

Which is better shock oil or motor oil?

Silicone-based shock oil is better for the environment than the other options of motor oil, as well. It is safer than motor oil. Its lubrication is more effective than motor oil. It is not flammable. It is an electrical insulator, which means it will increase the life of your RC car. It is usually cheaper than motor oil.
