How long does it take to get ANCC certification?
Your certificate and ANCC pin are mailed to you approximately 4 weeks after you have successfully completed the exam. You will also receive an official letter from ANCC with your specific 5-year certification period.
How long does it take to renew ANCC certification?
Certificate orders are processed monthly, so there may be a 6 to 8 week period before you receive your renewal packet. When applications arrive complete, the process is streamlined and painless.
How many questions do you have to get right on ANCC?
The ANCC test consists of 150 to 175 multiple-choice questions as well as 25 pilot test questions, which won’t count towards the score. Each test question is good for a predetermined number of points. A perfect score would be 500 points. To pass the exam, the students must have a score of at least 350.

Can I take ANCC if I fail AANP?
If you fail the AANP exam, can you take the ANCC exam (and vice versa)?* * You may take and retake either exam as long as you meet the board’s eligibility requirements for testing and retesting. *AANP is often used as shorthand for AANPCB (the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board).
Can I take both AANP and ANCC?
You can take both exams with no issue. The only reason why you would need to take both exams is if you are considering a specialty that’s not certified by one of them. For example, if you are an FNP that’s certified with the AANP, and you want to become a PMHNP, you would have to be certified by the ANCC.
