What kind of wire is used for needle felting?

Cloth covered wire is very useful with armatures for needle felting as the wool has something to hold onto. We have three different gauges of wire: 22 gauge, 26 gauge, and 32 gauge. The 22 gauge wire comes in white and brown cloth, and is 18″ long. This size wire is good for making small armatures under 6 inches tall.

How do you needle felt a large animal?

It may be recommended to use wire in legs for heavier animals as even hard felted limbs will bend under a heavy weight over time. Leave some wire at the end of the limb, make a hole in the shape using an awl, put some glue on the limb wire and stick it in the hole, then felt a bit of wool over the junction to hide it.
