How high should my tri bike seat be?
How high should my tri bike seat be?
Proper saddle height should put your knee angle between 140-150° when at the bottom of your down stroke. If the saddle is too low and the angle too acute, you’ll be spinning and bouncing without producing any power.
What is the TT position?
As I mentioned, the purpose of the TT/Tri position is to allow the rider to assume an aerodynamic posture aboard the bike, whereby their pelvis and shoulders rotate forward in harmony. This forward rotation is the part that will cause discomfort.
How do you size a triathlon bike?
TT bikes are measured (in cm) from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube (centre of the top of seat tube). Some manufacturers will measure centre of the BB to the top of the top tube (centre to top) or centre of the BB to the centre of the top tube (centre to centre).
How do you get a good TT position?
For an aggressive position suitable for a top-level triathlete or a road race time trial event, the top of the elbow pad should be at least a full fist width below the mid-point of the saddle (most fists are about 8cm). Often these athletes can be optimised with between a 10-20cm saddle to elbow pad drop.

The Felt AR4’s reversible seat post allows a steep seat angle for triathlon. This crucial open hip angle is why it’s important to have TT-bike geometry – such as the Felt DA’s 78-degree seat angle – or a road bike that you can adapt to a steeper angle – such as the Felt AR series, which has a reversible seat post allowing a 78.5-degree seat angle.
Why do you need a tri bike seat tube?
The position also saves key muscles for running. Road bike seat tube geometry is geared toward making efficient use of all leg muscles, especially the hamstrings, which is an important muscle to save for the run. Tri-geometry makes more use of the quads to generate power.”
