What does the Greasebucket tone circuit do?

What does the Greasebucket tone circuit do?

The Greasebucket tone circuit adds a new dimension to your tone, the effect is that when rolled down, the tone pot reduces the high frequencies, but does not emphasize the bass.

What is grease bucket?

Grease Bucket is Fender’s name for their special tone circuit. It rolls of the highs without adding bass, or so they say.

What is treble bleed mod?

At its core, a treble bleed mod is the simple (and completely reversible) addition of a capacitor, on its own or paired with a resistor, to your guitar’s volume pot. That’s all it takes to ensure your treble “bleeds” through, no matter where you have your volume control.

Does treble bleed affect tone?

2: Treble bleed mod can have NO effect on your guitar tone when the volume pot is on 10 as the capacitor (and its resistor if present) are short circuited. Conversely, the higher the value of the resistor, the more treble is passed by the capacitor. However, a parallel resistor affects the taper of the volume pot.

Does changing pots affect tone?

A potentiometer or “pot”, is a variable resistor that changes your tone or volume by increasing or decreasing resistance. Adding a capacitor or “cap” to the pot turns it into a simple EQ. Turning the wiper adjusts the amount of resistance and, in turn, determines which frequencies are allowed to pass.

What is the value of treble bleed?

Good working values to try are from 220 pF up to 1500 pF for the cap, and 100k-ohm up to 330k-ohm for the resistor. Our third treble-bleed network, shown on the right, consists of a cap with a resistor in series.

What does Greasebucket tone circuit the truth say?

Some hopefully helpful info for you Thom. Here is what Fender says about the Greasebucket: “The Greasebucket tone circuit adds a new dimension to your tone, the effect is that when rolled down, the tone pot reduces the high frequencies, but does not add bass.” And the full article which should explain it more effectively than I am able.

What’s the difference between a DeltaTone and a Greasebucket?

the deltatone is just a “no-load” tone pot, it disconnects itself entirely when it hits the detent, making the sound brighter. the “greasebucket” is a regular 250k tone, with an added cap that prevents the subtle low-mid boost you get when a regular tone pot hits “0”. on “10” it’s just a regular tone pot.

Can a Greasebucket be used on a bridge?

Since the Greasebucket removes high frequency and adds a midrange presence it was perfect for the bridge especially when overdriven. So I opened up the guitar again and wired split tone controls with a .022 on the neck pot and a Greasebucket Tone Circuit on the bridge and middle pot.
