Police use of force is designed to gain control of a subject using no more force than is reasonably necessary, having regard firstly to officer safety and secondly to minimizing harm to the subject.

Requirements
- Will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field or an associate in safety, health, or the environment.*
- Will have one (1) year of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties.
- Must pass the ASP examination.

Do you need a security guard license to take the Toronto use of force course?
It is not meant as a stand-alone course in the use of force. The in class program is held at a Toronto location for individuals. You do not need a security guard license to attend. Companies that want to certify their staff can hire our instructor to attend their location.
What is the Ontario Police use of force course?
This course was developed by a Subject Matter Expert and former Instructor Trainer for the Ontario Police College. Subjects include Criminal and Trespass arrest, detailed use of force authority explanations, judgement and decision making (crisis intervention) and incident articulation.
