R8’s usually have a fatter neck and the R9’s are a bit smaller, but still pretty chunky. R9’s also tend to have more flame on their tops, but I have seen R8’s with really nice tops. As far as construction, hardware, pickups, and electronics, they’re basically the same, as far as I know.

The R9 has a chunkier profile than the R0. My R9 feels nothing like my R0. Not At All. But then mine is a very early example (instrument 131 of 1993 which was the first year of the Historic Division R9) and I think the newer ones are less hefty than mine.
