What is a surface veil?

What is a surface veil?

Go. METYX Composites surface veils are non-woven, polyester fabrics. They are used to produce smooth, resin-rich, protective surfaces, mainly in pultrusion and filament winding processes.

What is fiberglass veil used for?

Fiberglass veil is used to prevent print thru when laying up parts in a mold. It can also be used when coring to prevent resin from soaking thru the honeycomb. Surfacing veil can only be used with polyester or vinyl-ester resin.

What is fiberglass veil?

Fiberglass Surfacing Veil 50″ Width 10 Mil. This material is a thin fiberglass fabric which is used between the gelcoat and the reinforcing materials. This surfacing veil prevents the weave patterns from bleeding through and becoming visible in the gelcoat.

What is carbon veil?

Carbon tissue / veil is a lightweight, non-woven carbon fiber veil incorporating 100% carbon fibers, approximately 1″ in length, bonded together in a random fiber matrix.

What is Nexus veil?

Nexus® gives twice the fiber coverage of conventional glass veil at equivalent weights. Yet its soft pliability conforms easily to ribbed areas, irregular shapes, and compound curves. Nexus® is the veil of choice for pultruders and filament winders due to its excellent resistance to fading, impact, and corrosion.

How are surfacing veils customized for your application?

Our surfacing veils can be customized to your needs based on weight, aesthetics, chemical free fibers and surface treatment additives (like optical brighteners, TiO2, UV additives and microbial treatments). Depending on your application, they can also be printed with different colors to enhance surface effects

Which is the best synthetic surface veil product?

EcoVeil Synthetic Surface Veil product with high tensile strength, excellent uniformity and low neck down for trouble-free processing. The virtually invisible pattern provides a smooth, resin rich protective surface. EcoVeil also works excellent as scrim and coating/bonding substrate.

Why do you need a surface veil on composite?

The use of a surface veil on a laminate composite surface offers protection from chemical corrosion and abrasion. Veils are high melt polyesters that have an excellent appearance and surface smoothness, making your product look aesthetic.

Why do you need a surfacing veil for laminate?

Surfacing veils strengthen the resin-rich surface of composite parts, creating a strong bond with the underlying laminate and enhancing surface appearance by masking the reinforcing fiber pattern. This reduction in pattern print-through allows for the highest quality surface to last over time.
