The National Weather Service made a change nationally to all of our radar change on December 17, 2020. The old radar pages were relying on old software (Adobe Flash) that is no longer being supported in web browsers at the end of 2020.
What is a radar loop?
Looking at several radar images over a period of time — or a radar loop — can offer clues about where and how fast the rain or snow is falling. Weather radar can track rain and snow, and see potential for flash flooding.
Is NOAA radar free?

What does a tornado look like on radar?
Meteorologists look for low CC values within a tornado’s debris ball surrounded by higher values. This often appears as a small blue circle within a larger red area. If the radar shows a strong area of rotation and a debris ball in the same area, it is a strong signature that there is a tornado occurring.

How do you use the new NWS radar?
Select a specific/single radar site:
- Click on “Select View” (at the very-top left – has an icon which looks like two screens on top of each other)
- Click on “Radar Station Products” (not the adjacent down-arrow)
- Zoom in/out, pan around, if desired.
- Select a large purple/blue dot (radar site)

Funnel clouds continue to be observed across parts of southeast Nebraska into far southwest Iowa, and will remain possible through early evening. These funnel clouds are very unlikely to reach the ground, but if you see one approaching the ground, seek shelter and contact the National Weather Service.
