Solian contains a medicine called amisulpride. This belongs to a group of medicines called ‘anti-psychotics’. It is used to treat an illness called schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can make you feel, see or hear things which do not exist, have strange and frightening thoughts, change how you act, and make you feel alone.
Is Solian a sedative?
Managing agitation Although amisulpride is effective in controlling psychotic symptoms, it is not sedative and complementary strategies need to be instituted at the beginning of treatment to control agitation and anxiety if these occur to a significant extent. The most appropriate strategy is use of a benzodiazepine.

Amisulpride demonstrated a satisfactory global safety profile in the range of doses usually prescribed. The number of patients having at least one extrapyramidal side-effect was higher in haloperidol patients compared with both amisulpride and risperidone patients (50% versus 30% in the two latter groups).
When should you take Solian?
If necessary your doctor can prescribe up to 1200mg each day. Doses up to 300mg each day can be taken as a single dose. Take the dose at the same time each day. Doses above 300mg should be taken as half in the morning and half in the evening.
