Can anyone join the Gurkhas?

Most of our British Officers have degrees but some enter the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst direct from school or having previously joined the Army as a soldier. If you wish to become a Gurkha Officer please contact the Army Careers Adviser (ACA) who covers your school or university.

How do you get into the Gurkhas?

In short, eligibility criteria include:

  1. Education: Minimum School Leaving Certificate 3rd Division or its equivalent.
  2. Age: Between 17½ -21 years on 01 January for intake year.
  3. Chest: Minimum 79cm.
  4. Height: Minimum 158cm (5ft 2in).
  5. Weight: Minimum 50Kg.
  6. Eyesight: Glasses/Contact Lenses/Laser eye surgery are not permitted.
