What is the difference between Whisperlite and Whisperlite International?

How long does Whisperlite fuel last?
We found the Whisperlite to be more fuel-efficient than most other liquid fuel stoves. MSR says that 20 ounces of white gas burned at max flame will burn for 1 hour and 50 minutes — that’s a lot of Ramen noodles!
How much fuel does Whisperlite use?
The standard model only burns white gas. The Whisperlite will boil about 7 liters of water / 100g of fuel used. 100g of fuel will burn for about 25 minutes. 100g of fuel is roughly equivalent to 100 ml, and 100 ml is about 3.5 fl oz.

MSR recommends only using MSR IsoPro™ fuel with our stoves—because our stoves are specifically designed and tuned for it and thus will perform better. However, if MSR fuel is not available, any canister with an 80% isobutane / 20% propane fuel mix and certified to EN 417 should work.
Does camp stove fuel go bad?
If you’re talking about sealed butane-mix canisters, no, they won’t go bad. But if you’re talking about a jug of white gas, that’s another story. Once opened, white gas should generally be used within a few months.
How much fuel does an alcohol stove use?
As you can see, there is a similar weight between the two setups for a 7 day trip, but an advantage that an alcohol stove has is that it will weigh significantly less by the end of the trip because about 10 oz of fuel will be used up. For a gas stove, the canister will still weigh 4 oz when empty.

Is the MSR whisperlite Universal a fuel efficient stove?
The Universal is about as fuel-efficient as the other liquid fuel stoves in our review when tested with white gas. The included windscreen allows it to reach boiling while some of the small canister stoves just can’t get there.
