Pressure Therapy System. TheraPEP® PEP Therapy System is the easy-to-use system for mobilizing secretions in patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), lung diseases with secretory problems and to prevent or reverse atelectasis, as well as patients recovering from surgery.
What is PEP therapy used for?
PEP (positive expiratory pressure) therapy helps open and move mucus out of your lungs. You breathe into a small handheld device that has a valve. You breathe out against a set amount of pressure. The pressure helps hold your airways open.
What is a PEP therapy device?
A positive expiratory pressure (PEP) breathing device (such as the Acapella®) uses inhalation and exhalation to keep your lungs healthy. Also, when blowing the air out of your lungs or exhaling, the PEP device provides vibrations you will feel in the airways of your lungs.
How do pep masks work?
How does the PEP mask work? PEP stands for Positive Expiratory Pressure. When you breathe out through the mask, pressure builds up in your lungs, which helps to keep the airways open wide and also allows air to get behind the sputum so that it can be coughed up more easily.
How do you clean TheraPEP?
- Wash your hands with soap and warm water. Follow package insert to put TheraPEP together.
- The TheraPEP should be cleaned when it looks dirty or as directed by your doctor. It may need to be cleaned after every treatment if it is used with a nebulizer.
- Disinfect the TheraPEP as directed by your healthcare provider.
What is bubble pep?
Bubble PEP is a treatment to help children at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) who have a build up of phlegm (secretions) in their lungs. Bubble PEP is used for any child who has difficulty clearing phlegm, most commonly those who have cystic fibrosis (CF) or after surgery.
What is PEP lungs?
In positive expiratory pressure (PEP), a person breathes through a mask or a handheld mouthpiece. PEP devices allow air to flow freely as you breathe in, but not when you breathe out. You must breathe out harder against the resistance.
What is Threshold PEP?
Threshold PEP is used for airway clearance, bronchial hygiene, or as an alternative to chest physical therapy. The resistive load creates positive pressure during exhalation that helps open the airways and allows mucus to be expelled.
What is forced expiratory technique?
The forced expiratory technique sometimes referred to as a ‘huff’, is used to help force secretions (phlegm) up the throat so it can be removed via the mouth without the pain of coughing. The technique is quite simple and involves imagining you a steaming up a mirror in front of you.
Can you clean nebulizer with alcohol?
Rinse all pieces with sterile water after using a special solution for disinfection. You can purchase 70% isopropyl alcohol and 3% hydrogen peroxide at your local pharmacy, they will not need to be diluted. After disinfecting the pieces of the nebulizer, place them on a clean, dry towel away from the sink to air dry.
