What is the Linx system?
The LINX system is a small flexible band of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores designed to restore the body’s natural barrier to reflux in patients with GERD.
How long does a LINX device last?
There have now been several research studies published which have looked at the safety and efficacy of LINX® up to five years following surgery. These have consistently shown the following: Significant and maintained reductions in reflux symptoms. Normalisation of acid exposure in the oesophagus.
Who qualifies Linx?
Patients 21 years of age and older who are healthy enough for surgery may qualify for LINX. All patients must undergo pre-surgical testing to determine their candidacy.
Can you throw up with Linx?
Will I be able to belch or vomit with LINX®? LINX® preserves normal physiological function so you can belch or vomit as needed.
Is Linx a major surgery?
Laparoscopic placement of the LINX device is major surgery and death can occur. General Precautions: The LINX device is a long-term implant.
Can you drink soda after Linx surgery?
In general, you should refrain from drinking carbonated beverages to avoid gassiness. Drinking warm liquids, such as tea, before a meal relaxes the muscle around the device.
Is LINX procedure reversible?
Other side effects commonly reported after the Nissen fundoplication including an inability to vomit, abdominal bloating, and flatulence are rare with the Linx. The procedure is reversible.
Is the LINX procedure painful?
If needed, these tubes usually need to stay in place for the entire day after surgery. POSTOPERATIVE PAIN: Pain from the incisions is normal. It will vary from day to day and with activity level, but should gradually decrease over time. Mild esophageal pain is also common and can feel like heartburn.
Has anyone had the Linx surgery?
Lister performed an EGD on me which showed I had a hernia and that the valve in my esophagus was not closing. He repaired the hernia and implanted the Linx device in 2015. The surgery was successful! I had instant relief from my acid reflux symptoms.
Why do you burp after Linx?
This is your body’s way of healing. The scar tissue forms a capsule around the device, preventing it from sliding up or down. You may experience some difficulty swallowing, increased belching or chest pain.
Can I eat pizza after Linx surgery?
Avoid eating breads, toast, crust, and pizza for 3 weeks after your procedure. You may have difficulty eating pasta and rice. Short noodles such as macaroni and cheese and rice in soups are usually better tolerated. Avoid eating food in casings such as sausage links.
