How do you take amphotericin?
How do you take amphotericin?
Amphotericin B injection comes as a solid powder cake to be made into a solution and then injected intravenously (into a vein) by a nurse or a doctor. Amphotericin B injection is usually infused (injected slowly) intravenously over a period of 2 to 6 hours once daily.
How do you administer amphotericin B?
Amphotericin B is injected into a vein through an IV. A healthcare provider will give you this injection. The medicine must be given slowly through an IV infusion, and can take from 2 to 6 hours to complete.
How do you dilute amphotericin B?
Usual Diluents
- Aseptically add 12 mL of Sterile Water for Injection, USP to each AmBisome vial to yield a preparation containing 4 mg amphotericin B/mL.
- Immediately after the addition of water, SHAKE THE VIAL VIGOROUSLY for 30 seconds to completely disperse the AmBisome.
How do you administer AmBisome?
AmBisome should be administered by intravenous infusion over a 30 – 60 minute period. For doses greater than 5mg/kg/day, intravenous infusion over a 2 hour period is recommended (see section 4.4). The recommended concentration for intravenous infusion is 0.20 mg/ml to 2.00 mg/ml amphotericin B as AmBisome.
How do you make amphotericin B solution?
Dilute each ‘mg’ of drug with 10 ml. [1 mg/ 10 ml ] [4 – 6 hours] * dilute the reconstituted solution with 250-500 mL D5W; final concentration should not exceed 0.1 mg/mL (peripheral infusion) or 0.25 mg/mL (central infusion). Add 10 mL of SWFI (without a bacteriostatic agent) to each vial of amphotericin B.
How do you give a conventional amphotericin B injection?
Remove 1 mL of 1 mg/mL solution and further dilute with 9 mL SWFI to achieve a final concentration of 0.1 mg/mL. A volume of 0.1 mL of the 0.1 mg/mL solution will contain 10 mcg of amphotericin. Withdraw dose into a 1 mL syringe for immediate administration (stability data are not available) (Kaushik 2001).
How long should amphotericin B be administered?
FUNGIZONE Intravenous (Amphotericin B for Injection) should be administered by slow intravenous infusion. Intravenous infusion should be given over a period of approximately 2 to 6 hours (depending on the dose) observing the usual precautions for intravenous therapy (see PRECAUTIONS: General).
What happens if you mix amphotericin with normal saline?
Prehydration: Give 1 litre of Normal Saline with 1 amp (20mmol) of KCl infused over 2 hours before the Amphotericin B infusion. This reduces the risk of renal toxicity and hypokalaemia, both side effects of Amphotericin B. This should preferably be given from 8am to 10am.
Can Amphotericin B be mixed with normal saline?
No interactions were found between amphotericin b liposomal and Normal Saline Flush.
Why do you filter AmBisome?
Because amphotericin B is associated with significant toxicities such as nephrotoxicity, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, it is usually reserved for patients who have severe, life-threatening invasive fungal infections or cannot tolerate other antifungal options, such as voriconazole.
