2mm is playable, but I definitely consider that too be too high for my tastes. I personally try to go for about 1.5mm or less. 2mm is playable, but I definitely consider that too be too high for my tastes.

What is considered low action on a Strat?

If so then in my opinion, something around 1.5 mm (= 1/16″, = 4/64″) is generally considered “low”. Now with a poorly set up nut and poorly set neck relief, this sort of action can be both buzzy up the neck and miserably difficult to play in positions near the nut.

What should the action height be on a Fender Stratocaster?

The key is getting the relief/truss rod set properly first, then move onto action. Normally about 1.6-2.4mm or 4-6/64″ is a proper setting…..the higher strings can go a bit lower than the wound ones, but personally I set all of mine to .010″ relief on the truss rod, and then 5/64″ or 2mm action evenly across all 6 strings….

What happens to the strings on a Fender Stratocaster?

Being to close may cause the magnetic field to prevent the string vibration, hence reduce sustain. The pitch may also change and the intonation gets false. Keep the distance! A very low fret action may cause the strings to collide with the highest frets while playing.

How do you adjust the truss on a Fender Stratocaster?

Adjusting the truss rod involves loosen the strings, tighten (or loosen) the truss rod, tune back the strings and measure the neck curve by looking upwards from the bridge. You can also press and hold down the high E string on the first and last fret to measure the distance between the string and the 8-12 fret.

Can you lower the action on a Stratocaster?

If you have a lighter touch you can set action lower. If you play with a heavier touch, you need higher action to avoid buzzing. It is my belief that if you have more string tension (which goes along with heavier strings) you can achieve lower action without buzzing. Dmac73 likes this.
