Is a JP a free service?
A JP is trusted to be honest and impartial when performing their functions. They cannot: charge you a fee or accept a gift for providing JP services. assist or write in a statutory declaration or affidavit.
Do police stations have a JP?
All police stations are able to perform the tasks of a JP. Some pharmacists may be able to certify documents and witness statutory declarations but may charge a fee.
Where can I get a JP signature?
Find a Justice of the Peace (JP)

- some financial institutions.
Does Service NSW have JPs?
Justices of the Peace (JPs) provide a valuable and important service to the community and/or the workplace. In NSW, JPs are appointed for 5-year terms. If you’d like to apply to become a JP, you need to register online first.
Do you get paid to be a JP?
Becoming a Justice of the Peace is a voluntary task. A number of people will become a JP for reasons that relate to their business or their community, but they won’t be paid directly by those whom they are witnessing signatures or certifying copies for.
What are the benefits of being a JP?
JPs will get to witness a few affidavits, Powers of Attorney, Enduring Powers of Attorney, wills, declarations that the client is still alive, divorce papers, authorisation for visitations and so on, maybe some adoption papers.
Does it cost to see a JP?
Are there any cost or fees to use a JP? Answer – No. All JP services in New Zealand are free.
Can the police certify documents?
You can have copies of original documents certified at any police station, at any time. The certification of copies is done free of charge. You must provide your own copies.
Can a pharmacist be a JP?
Your pharmacist may also be authorised to witness your signature on documents. It is important that you do not sign the document before taking it to the pharmacy as the pharmacist must physically witness you signing the document in their presence.
Can a family member witness a signature?
A party relying on a deed may accept a family member as a witness (although will almost certainly insist on an adult) but may wish to add some additional controls so that if the signatory and witness both claim the deed wasn’t signed there is some additional evidence to show they are not being truthful.
Is the JP available at the Parramatta library?
As this service is performed by volunteers we encourage you to contact the library branch before visiting with your documents to ensure that the JP is available. JPs may limit the number of documents to certify in a session. This will be at the discretion of the JP in attendance.
