Initial D was a perfect mix of humor, realism and great storytelling. Despite the fact that it was a fictional animated series, Initial D served as my first real exposure to Japanese car culture as it exists in its homeland.

What Initial D’s soundtrack does its job well, but it heightens the experience in a much deeper way than most soundtracks can ever hope to achieve. Overall, while Initial D is not a good anime, it’s not a bad anime either, and even though the story is terrible, 85% of the anime is racing anyway, so you won’t have to deal with the crappy plot much (assuming that you don’t just skip to Fourth Stage.
