Uponor (formerly Wirsbo) has been making PEX pipe for radiant floor heating since 1970, longer than any other PEX manufacturer. We were also the first to bring radiant floor heating to North America in the mid-1980s.
What is ProPEX?
The letters PEX stand for cross-linked polyethylene, and this acronym usually refers to a type of water pipe that’s revolutionizing the plumbing and heating industries. After installing 3,000 feet of pipe with ProPEX connections over the last 18 months, it’s my favourite pipe system for several unique reasons.
Is Uponor and Wirsbo the same?
PEX-a is the highest flexibility PEX tubing and popular brands include Rehau, Uponor (formerly called Wirsbo) and ComfortPro. Typically, PEX-a is used with cold expansion fittings (F1960) or Uponor / Wirsbo’s brand name Propex fittings.
Can you use crimp rings on Uponor?
As I understand it, crimp ring fittings and sharkbites are ok. You shouldn’t use the expansion tool on lesser grades of PEX.
