Following today’s update and the Government’s unwillingness to provide insurance support for festivals, we are very sadly out of time and have no option but to cancel WOMAD 2021. Peter Gabriel said: “It is with great regret that we are cancelling WOMAD ’21 today.

WOMAD 2021 will go ahead in July with Anoushka Shankar leading a ‘global party’ of UK-based world music stars. Anoushka Shankar has been announced in the first wave of artists to perform at WOMAD 2021 , alongside Gambia’s first female Griot and China’s leading pipa lutist.

The Womad music festival has been cancelled “to guarantee its survival”, co-founder Peter Gabriel has announced. Confirming the cancellation, he said waiting for either would “put Womad’s long-term future at risk”. The government said it was working towards live events being able to reopen fully from 19 July.
