What is eccrine Spiradenoma?

What is eccrine Spiradenoma?

An eccrine spiradenoma is a rare benign tumor most often seen in the head, neck and upper trunk of young adults. Although spontaneous pain or tenderness is a typical symptom of eccrine spiradenomas, the underlying mechanism has not been fully elucidated.

What is Spiradenocarcinoma?

Spiradenomas are well-differentiated, benign, dermal neoplasms originating from the sweat glands. Most spiradenomas occur between the ages of 15 to 35 years. Typically, they present as small solitary nodules that can grow to several centimeters, often with a blue, gray, or purple hue. They are very painful.

What does poroma mean?

A poroma is a benign adnexal neoplasm composed of epithelial cells that show tubular (usually distal ductal) differentiation. The malignant counterpart of a poroma is referred to as porocarcinoma.

What is a Cylindroma?

Cylindromas are appendage tumors previously thought to be of apocrine differentiation. While phenotypic features differ between cylindromas and spiradenomas, recent studies have shown immunohistological and cytomorphological overlap, with both tumors exhibiting apocrine, eccrine, secretory, and ductal features.

What is a Neurilemmoma?

Schwannomas are tumors that develop from Schwann cells found in the nervous system. They are also called neurilemomas, neurolemoms, or neuromas. They are often located on the nerve connecting the brain to the inner ear.

What causes Porocarcinoma?

The exact etiology of porocarcinoma is unknown, but like the benign poroma, it is known to arise from the acrosyringium. It is believed to either arise de novo or by malignant degeneration of a longstanding poroma. One study quoted 18% of porocarcinoma arise from poroma, while others claim 30-50%.

Do Poromas need to be excised?

The occurrence of multiple poromas is exceedingly rare and is referred to as poromatosis. Treatment with surgical excision is often considered optional given the benign course of poromas.

Is Cylindroma cancerous?

Cylindroma is an uncommon benign tumor, which originates from skin appendages and is most commonly found on the scalp and face with a strong predilection for middle-aged and elderly females.

Is Cylindroma malignant?

Malignant cylindroma (cylindromatous carcinoma, cylindrocarcinoma) is the malignant counterpart of benign cylindroma. It is a rare neoplasm, more often developing in the setting of multiple preexisting benign neoplasms.

Is Schwannomatosis hereditary?

Studies suggest that 15 to 25 percent of cases of schwannomatosis run in families. These familial cases have an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance, which means a mutation in one copy of the SMARCB1 or LZTR1 gene in each cell greatly increases the risk of developing schwannomas.

What is metastatic Porocarcinoma?

Porocarcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of the eccrine or apocrine gland that usually presents clinically as a firm erythematous to violaceous nodule or verrucous plaque ranging in size from 0.4 cm to 20.0 cm with an average of 2.2 cm (Figure 1).

Can a malignant eccrine spiradenoma be de novo?

Introduction: Malignant eccrine spiradenoma is a rare and aggressive tumor, developed on the epithelium of eccrine sweat glands. Typically, it occurs after malignant transformation of benign eccrine spiradenoma, but sometimes it happens de novo. Observation: We report a case of malignant eccrine spiradenoma in a 62-year-old woman.

What causes eccrine spiradenoma and what causes it?

The exact cause of malignant eccrine spiradenoma is unknown, though it is thought that sun exposure or problems with the immune system (immunosuppression) may contribute to the development of this tumor.

Can a cylindromatous foci develop as a spiradenoma?

Spiradenomas with cylindromatous foci (spiradenocylindroma) have been described. Malignant degeneration of a spiradenoma is a rare occurrence. Malignant eccrine spiradenoma is more likely to develop in a preexisting spiradenoma. Clinically, the patient may have noticed rapid enlargement, ulceration, pain, or a change in color.

What kind of surgery is used for eccrine spiradenoma?

Listen Surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible is usually the first step of treatment for malignant eccrine spiradenoma. Both a traditional surgical technique known as wide local excision and the newer Mohs micrographic surgery are thought to be effective for treating this cancer.
