Named after New York State Senator, MacNeil Mitchell, and Assemblyman Alfred Lama, Mitchell Lama is a housing program designed to create and maintain affordable housing to middle-income individuals in New York. The apartments under the Mitchell-Lama program includes cooperative apartments (“co-ops”) and rentals.
How long does it take for HPD application process?
Applicants need to be prepared to begin processing immediately after submitting their application. The entire process can take as little as 3 months. Applicants who are not available for employment within the next 4-6 months should wait to apply.
How does housing connect calculate income?
DCJ uses the gross assessable household income. When applying for a rent subsidy, a tenant must complete a Rent Subsidy Application by completing a Tenancy Online Form or downloading a paper copy from the DCJ website.
