What is ICG dye used for?

Indocyanine green injection is a medical dye used in tests to help determine the cardiac (heart) output, liver function, and blood flow in the liver. It is also used to help certain parts of the eye to become more visible during medical procedures such as angiography.

How long does ICG dye last?

Because of the plasma protein binding, ICG stays for up to 20 to 30 minutes in the vessels (intravasally). When the eye is examined, it thus stays for a long time in tissues with a higher blood flow, such as the choroid and the blood vessels of the retina.
