Can you pastel over gesso?

Can I use pastel on MDF board?
Untreated MDF board may not have sufficient tooth to hold chalk pastels directly but I know of colleagues that have used it that way with oil pastels. The added advantage of treated MDF board however is that the pastel can be carefully washed off during the painting process, if desired.
Can you wet pastel pencils?
Pastel pencils are versatile enough to be used on their own but many artists also use them in combination with other pastel types (excluding oil pastels). They can be used dry or wet and can be blended just like other pastels.
Are pastel pencils good?
