Certification for Educators Prepared by PDE Approved Preparation Programs. PDE approved preparation programs are designed to prepare and certify educators to teach or serve in Pennsylvania schools. Preparation programs are offered by colleges/universities, intermediate units or other educational entities.

How long is the pect exam?
Candidates can take all three modules during one test session lasting 3 hours and 15 minutes, or they can take each module separately. If candidates take all three modules together, they can allocate the total time (3 hours and 15 minutes) across the three modules in any way they please.
What score do you need to pass the pect exam?

Passing scores are 220 for a student with a 3.0 GPA and then are scaled upward or downward based on lower or higher GPA’s. Check the PA Department of Education website for up-to-date information.

Answer: To become a teacher without a degree, the recommended route is to complete a bachelor’s degree that includes a teacher preparation program.
