What is PlatSil Gel?
PlatSil Gel 10 is our most popular two-part Silicone Rubber which cures (RTV) to a milky white, Shore A10 rubber. This silicone is most often used to make prosthetic appliances in conjunction with Smiths Theatrical Deadener for lifecasting and mold making.
What is addition cure silicone?
Addition curing systems are two part silicones which require the mixture of a silicone polymer with a catalyst to initiate the cure. These offer several advantages over one part systems, especially in production environments. Their cure can be greatly accelerated by heat curing.

How long does it take for silicone mold to set?
Normal curing time for most silicones is between 18- and 24-hours, but cure times may be greatly reduced by using fast-acting catalysts. When making molds in a studio where such equipment is available, de-airing in a vacuum chamber is recommended to remove trapped air bubbles.
Which is better addition or condensation silicone?
Both addition and condensation silicones produced stone dies that were larger in diameter and shorter in height than the tooth preparation. The most significant difference between types of silicone was that condensation silicones produced significantly shorter dies (-0.24% to -0.37%) than addition silicones (-0.08%).
Does silicone shrink when cured?
When the product cools or cures in the mold, it will begin shrinking. Shrinking will continue to happen to the part for the next 24 hours. If you are ever doing measurements on critical dimensions of a part, it should wait until 24 hours after molding.
