What is the difference between the Dail and the Seanad?

The Dáil has 160 members. The Seanad is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members selected in a number of different ways. 43 senators are elected by councillors and parliamentarians, 11 are appointed by the Taoiseach, and six are elected by two university constituencies, thus having 60 members in total.

This is a list of the members of the 1922 Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (legislature) of the Irish Free State. It was first constituted on 8 December 1922. The Free State Seanad was elected in stages and thus considered to be in permanent session.
