There are currently 4 levels in the Xcel Program; Silver, Gold, Platinum & Diamond. More information about USAG Xcel in general. Gymnasts may progress into higher levels by a variety of paths: JO Compulsory, Xcel Optional, and JO Optional.

What is the difference between Jo and Xcel gymnastics?
The biggest difference between JO and Xcel is that where JO has very strict requirements, Xcel’s are more relaxed and allow the gymnast more of a range of skills, as well as more room to train and progress at their own pace. Gymnasts who maybe would have quit are now staying with gymnastics and competing in Xcel.
Can you skip levels in Xcel gymnastics?
Skipping levels in both JO and Xcel are generally not allowed- the exception is bronze in xcel and L1-3 and L6 in JO. All other levels are mandatory.

The fifth, and highest, level, or division, as it’s called in Xcel gymnastics, is Xcel Diamond. The requirements in Xcel Diamond continue to progress from those in the Platinum division. Gymnasts in the Xcel Diamond division typically have skills that are the equivalent of a DP Level 7 or higher.

When did the Xcel program become a national program?
The Xcel Program was created as a national program in 2013; some states had a similar program known as the Prep Optional program. However, the national Xcel program has more levels and spans a much greater level of ability than most states’ Prep Optional program.
Is the water fountain at Xcel gymnastics closed?

Do you have to compete in the compulsory gymnastics program?
The compulsory program can be unforgiving, with its routines that require gymnasts to learn an exact set of skills regardless of their strengths. Gymnasts can spend less time in the gym but still be able to learn skills that allow them to compete. Gymnasts are not required to compete all four events.
