The Blasting Curse (Confringo) was a curse that caused the target to explode. This curse was very dangerous and potentially even lethal.
Why did Hermione use bombarda?
Bombarda seems to have a similar effect the time it’s seen cast. The only time Bombarda is confirmed to be used is when Hermione used it to blast the door to Sirius Black was being kept open in the movie version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

My gut instinct is that general audiences would expect ” reducto ” to make things small, whereas ” bombarda ” sounds like bombard, a word that’s related to explosions. Reducto blasts solid objects away, often blowing them up as well. The description of it that Harry gives at one point that it would blast solid objects out of the way.

How is the Bombarda spell used in Harry Potter?
(In the book she uses Alohomora, not an explosive spell, to open a window to break Sirius out.) This is the only time a spell we know to have the incantation Bombarda to have been used. It’s never mentioned in the seven books, and isn’t used again in the movies in a way we can confirm its use.
What’s the difference between Bombardo, Reducto, and confingo?
Bombarda, by my understanding, is like a cannon or mortar, and designed for use against stone structures. Reducto brings down objects, mainly by turning them to dust. Expulso unleashes a pressure wave at the target. Confrigo is a fireball or flamethrower spell.
