What is a Waterous pump?
Designed with a two-piece, horizontally split body with intake and discharge passageways in a single casting and on the same level, this pump provides the lowest possible height, a lower center of gravity, and more room for hose reels, hose beds and other equipment.
How does a discharge relief valve work?
The relief valve is mounted on the pump or in the piping between the intake and discharge sides of the pump. It modulates flow between discharge and intake by ranging between the fully open and fully closed position in response to hydraulic signals from the pilot valve. The relief valve is available in three sizes.
What is a fire pump engine?
A fire pump is any type of purpose-driven pump used within a fire protection system. It can be driven by diesel engines, electric motors or even steam and is used to provide increases in water pressure to meet the design requirements of a fire protection system. Fire pumps do not create a water supply.
What kind of pumps do fire trucks use?
Centrifugal Fire Pump In use for over a century, centrifugal pumps are the most common type of fire truck pump. Water enters the pump through an inlet, then goes into the center of an impeller spinning on a shaft. The water spins outwardly through the impeller vanes into a volute casing, which increases pressure.
What is 2 stage pump?
A two-stage pump has two suction impellers operating side by side. The operator must decide if he wants volume or more pressure by selecting a switch on the pump panel. The decision to use single-stage pumps is common in 75 percent of the current apparatus purchases. Training is also a factor in using a two-stage pump.
Why is the centrifugal pump the most common fire pump?
Centrifugal pumps are the most popular fire pumps and are classified as nonpositive-displacement pumps because they do not pump a definite amount of water with each revolution. Rather, this type of pump imparts velocity to the water and converts it to pressure within the pump itself.
When should I pump in RPM mode?
The rpm mode will allow the pumper to continue to operate if a pressure sensor clogs or fails and will allow constant engine speed operation for certain types of equipment like some types of CAFS or other engine driven equipment that need a relatively fixed speed for best performance.
How do you adjust a fire pump relief valve?
Slowly turn the pilot valve ON. The relief valve should open (amber light) and pump discharge pressure should drop below 90 PSI. Slowly turn the pilot valve OFF. The valve should close (green light) and pump discharge pressure should rise back to 150 PSI.
Is a jockey pump required?
A jockey pump is not required on systems utilizing a fire pump, however, due to their relative simplicity, jockey pumps are the most common method used to maintain system pressure. Since jockey pumps are not required to be listed, any pump capable of producing necessary pressure is acceptable.
How big is a 200-100-ds water pump?
The 200-100-DS isn’t your typical water pump. The slide-in, modular compressed air foam unit is designed and constructed to simultaneously discharge water, aspirated foam, foam solution or compressed air foam, delivering 200 GPM of water at 125 PSIg (800 L/min. @ 8.6 bar) and 100 CFM of air at 125 PSIg (2.83 m3/min @ 8.6 bar).
