Double balloon catheter designed to control intranasal bleeding. Small balloon control posterior bleeding and large balloon controls anterior bleeding. Made from soft, medical-grade silicone.

Posterior bleeding is sometimes controlled using topical vasoconstrictors. If not, it usually requires treatment with tamponade. Historically, gauze packing was used but balloon tamponade is easier to do and more comfortable to the patient and thus is usually preferred.

How is nasal packing done for anterior epistaxis?

Previously, anterior nasal packing was accomplished using a petrolatum gauze that was inserted using bayonet forceps into the affected naris like an accordion to maximize the surface area that the gauze would cover and to fully tamponade the bleeding. This method has fallen out of favor with the advent of ready-made nasal packing devices.

How to treat posterior nasal packing with a balloon-ear?

Posterior nasal packing is very uncomfortable. Intravenous sedation and analgesia are often needed and hospitalization is often required.
