What is the advantage of a cleaver prop?

What is the advantage of a cleaver prop?

A cleaver is a surfacing, or transom lifting propeller. If you have a boat like a tunnel or hydro where they use the wind to help lift the bow, a cleaver will help lift the transom to reduce the drag.

What does a chopper prop do?

A chopper is a propeller design largely of interest for production outboards on fast pad v-bottom boats. Choppers provide good acceleration and top speed and generally have relatively high rake, which has the effect of increasing the boat’s angle of attack without changing the motor trim.

Which prop is faster?

The lower the prop pitch, the better your hole-shot. However, this comes at a price: top speed. The lower pitch makes the engine reach maximum rpm at slower speeds. Conversely, a higher pitch will deliver greater top speeds, but slower acceleration.

What is a cleaver propeller?

The cleaver style propeller, inspired from racing, are designed to run at the water surface for maximum efficiency. They work best on lightweight hulls which have natural bow lift. Three blade models for the 40-60 hp engines feature through hub exhaust.

What pitch prop do I need for more speed?

A lower-pitch prop is like low gear in a car or a bicycle—you’ll accelerate quickly but top speed will suffer. A prop with too much pitch may deliver more top speed because the prop moves further forward with each rotation, but acceleration may be poor and the boat will struggle to get on plane.

What’s the difference between Chopper and Cleaver props?

Chopper props work better for heavier boats like Bass boats with pads and they have more bow lift, cleavers are meant for boats that don’t require bow lift like tunnels and air entrainment hulls. Sorry to bring up an old thread….what was the verdict on this ?

Which is better a 3 blade cleaver or a 4 Blade Chopper?

A 3 blade cleaver will produce MUCH more stern lift than a 4 blade chopper. Likewise a 4 blade cleaver will produce more stern lift than a 3 blade chopper. A good prop guy can make a 3 blade do anything you want it to do.

What’s the difference between Thru hub and thru hub Cleaver props?

There are many designs of cleavers just like choppers, thru hub props, OT props and so on. Generally, very generally, speaking cleaver props tend to have stern lift rather than bow or overall lift. There are over hub cleavers and thru bub cleavers.

What kind of props do bass boats use?

The earlier Choppers (called “inline choppers,”) had phenomenal performance, with a unique blade profile that featured very high positive rake, and high blade skew, as well as a large amount of trailing edge and tip cup for phenomenal holding power and bow lift, particularly at high transom settings.
