How to get to Te Awamutu from Ngaroto?
Head north from Te Awamutu towards Hamilton (on Ohaupo Road). About 2km past Taylors Hill (the big hill leading out of town), turn left into Ngaroto Road. Note that this turnoff is immediately after a corner so be careful not to miss it. Follow the road all the way until you come to a T-intersection with Paterangi Road.
Why is the water clarity in Lake Ngaroto so low?
The lake is hypertrophic, leading to eutrophication. It has very high levels of nutrients, microscopic algae and suspended sediment and its water clarity is low and decreasing by around 10 cm (3.9 in) a year.
